Euro 2020 Stadiums and Fixtures

Euro 2020

Euro 2020, although held in 2021, retained its original name due to branding investments made by UEFA and sponsors. This tournament stood out as the first to have multiple host cities, with matches played in 11 stadiums across Europe. The event also faced delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in reduced fan attendance and travel restrictions. Despite initial uncertainty, Euro 2020 proved to be a resounding success, possibly becoming one of the best Euros to date.

Home Advantage for Some Teams

England and Italy enjoyed home advantage during Euro 2020. England played all but one game at Wembley Stadium, reaching the final. Italy also played three group stage games in Italy and three at Wembley, which may have contributed to their success.

A Dramatic Final

In the final match, Italy defeated England 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time. While this match will be remembered for England’s penalty shootout disappointment, it was a highly entertaining tournament overall. Throughout the 51 matches, a total of 142 goals were scored, surpassing the 108 goals of Euro 2016 in France. The lower average of 2.9 yellow cards per game, compared to 4 in Euro 2016, allowed the games to flow smoothly. VAR was also used with minimal interference, adding a positive element to the tournament.
